The library - the treasure house of books and periodicals - is a centre
of intellectual activity of any institution. The MIT, which is imparting advanced level courses
and undertaking research programmes in vital technical areas. The MIT library, strives to its
readers n the interest of creativity and innovation, the predecessors of Research and Development.
Library The library started along with the institution in the year 1949. The library was
headed by eminent German Scientists Tmt. Herta Filipowskya for the period (1951 - 1953). It
is followed by the eminent scientist namely Thiru R. Venkataraman (1953 - 1955), Thiru R.
Thrivikraman (1955 - 1957), Thiru N.S. Subbanarayanan (1957 - 1962), Dr. S. Surya Prakash
(1962 - 1964), Thiru K.N.V. Raman (1964 - 74) worked as Honorary Librarians. In the year
1974, Thiru S. Pichuraman (1974 - 1990) has taken charge as Librarian and served for more
than a decade.

In the year 1978, this library formed as part of Anna University
since MIT is a constitution institution of Anna University. The following eminent professors
Dr. A. Ramakrishnan (Sept 1990 - July 1994), Dr.K.Padmanaban (Aug 1994 - Dec 1994), Dr. P. Baskaran
(Jan 1995 - June 1995), Dr. Ponnammal Natarajan (July 1995 - Dec 1998), Dr. K. Jayaraman
(Jan 1999 - July 1999), Dr. Sri Hari Nagore (Aug 1999 - Mar 2004), Dr. S. Krishnamurthy
(April 2004 - June 2004), Dr. S. Subramaniam (June 2004 - Nov. 2005) and Dr. P. Manohar
(Nov 2005 - Jul. 2010) served as Professor-in-Charge of the Library. In July 2010,
Dr.M.Ganesh Madhan has taken charge as Professor-in-Charge. The library has around
10 qualified Library professionals serving the users.
It has a well-equipped library stacking nearly 97,550 volumes of choice books
in various engineering subjects and basic sciences. The library subscribes to 20 periodicals. Besides,
the library has 12,781 bound volumes of periodicals. The Environmental information
DVD/VCD were added to the library collection. During the year 2015-16, around 1530 books were added .
The MIT library has special services like Book Bank (for SC/ST Students),
Founder's Family Book Bank, Reprography Service, Video facility, IEEE Student Branch Library and Information
Retrieval Systems through Intranet. The other services provided by the library includes Lending service,
Reference service and Internet Browsing.
A separate Digital Knowledge Centre has been established in order to enable
the users to browse the e-journals, e-learning materials, digital library collections of this campus and
other online journals. This facility is available in the intranet of this campus.
Recently, RF ID based library automation has been carried out.
This provides RFID based book transaction and self check out facility.
